Monday 21st December:

Winter begins – Although a white Christmas is looking unlikely in the UK, Christmas officially began and will take us straight through till March 20th 2021.

Breakthrough for Prostate Cancer treatment – New trials for Prostate cancer treatment have shown a ‘real breakthrough’ and could be used for those in the future with advanced cancer of the Prostate.

Lewis Hamilton wins Sports Personality of the Year – F1 driver, Lewis Hamilton had a triumphant 2020, equalling Michael Schumacher’s seven world championship title.

Tuesday 22nd December

Worlds Oldest Panda dies aged 38 – Xin Xing, who was the equivalent of over 130 human years old, gave birth to 36 cubs, and had 153 descendants.

Mutant COVID Strain is ‘everywhere’ – The UK’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Patrick Vallance has warned the toughest restrictions could be put in place after the new COVID strain infects many more.

Jupiter and Saturn get close – For the first time in 800 years, the two planets have got closer, both being visible to the naked eye. It said they will not appear this close together for another 80 years now!

Wednesday 23rd December

France re-opened border – Delivery drivers stuck on the British/ French borders were allowed to continue their job as rules changed. Many of the workers were without food and money, so community spirit shone through again with many, especially the Sikh community, making food for all the key workers.

Tier 4 restrictions to increase – Many more towns and cities across the UK will be facing tier 4 restrictions as of Boxing Day, as cases continue to rise.

Nicola Sturgeon apologises – Scottish First Minister apologised after she was pictured at a funeral with her mask off. She said she is ‘kicking herself’ over her mistake.

MGM up for sale – Hollywood studio, MGM, is up for sale for over $5bn. Home to the Bond and Rocky franchises, MGM owns a library of 400 film titles and 17,000 hours of TV Programming.

Tesco imposes limits again – Tesco have capped the amount of certain items you can buy, including toilet rolls, eggs and hand soap. This is to reduce potential issues we faced earlier this year with ‘panic buying’.

Thursday 24th December

‘Deep-fake’ Queens Speech – C4 made an alternative Christmas message delivered by a ‘deep-fake’ version of the Queen. C4’s intention was for the video to act as a ‘stark-warning’ of fake news. Many believe it went too far, and Buckingham Palace representatives had nothing to add on the matter.

‘The Deal is Done’ – Boris Johnson took to Twitter to announce a deal was made for Brexit. It still needs to be voted for by MPs, but this deal comes 4 years after the original referendum.

UK bans travel from South Africa – The government now believe the new Covid strain could be coming from South Africa, so a travel ban has been imposed. Anyone who has been to South Africa or been in contact with someone who has, must isolate for 14 days immediately.

Stella Tennant passes away aged 50 – World-famous model Stella Tennant passed away just days after her 50th birthday. The cause is unknown, but her family described her as a wonderful woman, and inspiration to many.

Friday 25th December

  • Christmas Day – For the majority of people, Christmas day was spent alone, including the Queen who spent it just with the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, for the first time in 30 years.
  • Christmas Top Charts No.1 goes to… – LadBaby topped the charts for the third year in a row with Don’t Stop Me Eatin’! All profits go to the Trussell Trust which fights for a hunger free future.
