Unforgettable and Iconic 2020 TV Moments

Lily O'Keeffe

2020 had some great moments, and our lack of social life often had us turning to the TV for a bit of escapism. Here are our top 10 unforgettable and iconic TV moments of 2020!

This scene got over half a million views on YouTube, but Sam’s Tik Tok using the audio was brilliant. Unexpected to say the least, and one of the highlights of 2020 for sure, to see him doing well.

Right at the start of 2020, Casualty actress, Amanda Henderson, mistook Greta Thunberg, with ‘Sharon’. The cherry on top had to be Greta subsequently changing her name to Sharon on Twitter.

2020 did throw some curveballs at us, but I really never thought that one of them would be Nigella Lawton’s pronunciation of the word ‘microwave’.

I think at least half the nation was sitting in their front rooms trying to alert John Torode that his tea towel had caught fire that morning. The clip just gets better every time I watch it… it’s Phil checking the This Morning kitchen that really tickles me.

Definitely a freudenschade moment. Laughing anyone passing out feels wrong, but it was just so dramatic, and he was ok… so I guess that makes it ok to laugh? James Blunt following up with ‘oh dear’ at the sight of unconscious Youtuber, Joe Sugg, topped this video for me.

This interview did show as a glimmer of hope for the nation, but Matt Hancock’s very smiley cry threw us all off. If he wasn’t a meme already, he certainly is now.

Radio 1 DJ, Jordan North referring to Turf Moor, Burnely FC’s home ground as his happy place lives rent free in my head. Turf Moor was changed on Wikipedia to Jordan’s happy place which I’m sure made his 2020, after coming a close second in the final.

Kylie Jenner had her famous ‘rise and shine’ which we all loved, but ‘I’m gonna get wasted’ took the shine this year. It reminded us that Kylie is just another one of us!

It wouldn’t be a 2020 list if it didn’t include the wonderful, Captain Tom Moore. Everything from him finishing the final laps of his garden, to his Pride of Britain award- he warmed the hearts of the nation right when we needed it most.

Tiger King… need I say anymore? I feel like this was a 2020 necessity and in any other year, we may not have appreciated this show as much as we did. It was a true lockdown blessing. I’ll be following this story for many years to come, and a Joe Exotic interview is pending… 2021?
