The Myth of Study Motivation

Missplannerguru

Hi friends! Today’s article is a more educational one because I feel like everyone needs to hear this. As a Studygrammer, I get a lot of questions about my study motivation, for example: “how do you stay so motivated” or “how can I get the same motivation that you have?”. Here’s my secret: I’m not always motivated, at all. I can feel you asking, how do I stay on top of my game then? That’s what I’ll be talking about today!

Sometimes we have classes that we enjoy taking, we like the material that is discussed, and we’re genuinely interested. But other times, we have subjects that are rather hard to understand or not so interesting as those other subjects. But no matter how you turn the tables, you’ll always have a bit of both worlds. So since your study career will be filled with both, you’ll have to study those less interesting subjects as well. But how do you stay motivated if the subjects aren’t your thing?

Here’s the thing, you can be genuinely motivated to do something, it’s possible. But most of the time, it isn’t motivation that makes us get things done, it’s discipline.

Motivation is something you can’t control, it comes in waves. That’s why we can’t always rely on motivation, it’s just too subject to change. Discipline, on the other hand, is 100% in your hands. Discipline can take on many forms, but when we’re talking about school, it’s the routine that helps us get things done. By following your routine, you show that you are disciplined to reach your goal. This means you can have after-school routines, study routines, exam routines, schoolday routines, etc.

This being said, I’ll answer your question: I’m not always motivated to study, but I’m disciplined! During my exams, I remember some days I felt like doing nothing. But I decided to stick to the routine that I created for myself because I was determined to pass those exams. And here we are, passed all my exams this year and ready for the new year to start!

So remember friends, you can’t always be motivated, but you can always be disciplined.
