Pain Au Chocolat Recipe: Student Edition

Lily O'Keeffe

I didn’t think it’d be fair to call this a homemade recipe, as I never had any intention of even attempting to make the pastry… I am a student after all. Despite slightly cheating with the pastry, this breakfast is special and definitely will impress your flatmates. It is perfect for a special occasion or even a weekend tradition! This recipe makes 4!

Ingredients

  • All butter puff pastry, 300 g, 4 4inchx4inch cut outs
  • 100g Chocolate Chips
  • 1 small egg
  • Icing sugar for dusting

  1. Preheat your oven to 200° C. Dust icing sugar on your surface and lay your pastry out. I brought pre-rolled pastry, but if you’re rolling it yourself, you want it no thicker than a £1 coin.
  2. Cut four squares of your pastry at 4inchx4inch each. Put your chocolate chips on one side of your cut-out pastry then fold the non-filled half over, like a sandwich. Press firmly so the sides seal, then place on your baking tray.
  3. Beat your egg, then brush over your pastry rolls. Put the rolls in the oven for 20 minutes. Once they’re out of the oven, they should look golden and crisp. I dusted mine with some icing sugar. They are best served warm, with a cup of tea!
