Forget PS5. Forget XBOX. Among us, created by Innersloth, is the game of 2020. Even though the game was released in 2018, it quickly rose to fame with the help from many Youtubers. In a lobby of ten or less, the player is a crewmate and must complete all their tasks to win. However, there are some players who are imposters who work together to sabotage the tasks and take out other players. This game has created many sleepless nights, it is just so addictive. There are many elements to the game, such as graphics and the gameplay, that are enjoyable. However, there are some problems with the game, such as hackers and sound.
When the volume does work it is really good. There is no music when you are in gameplay, which makes it easier to hear the Sci-fi whirr of the doors opening, the cranky creak of the vents being used and the ominous chimes at the home screen fits the space theme. Although, the problem being that after one or two games, the game volume would completely stop. The doors, vents and the task bleeps would not make a sound. It is not a problem that will make me stop playing it, it just ruins the experience of playing.
Nevertheless, the graphics in the game are amazing. Yes, the game has not got the quality of a 2020 RPG but for this game, they are surprisingly good. For me, it is similar to Minecraft (Microsoft Studios) where the game design is simple, but it adds to the character of the game. There does not need to be breath-taking graphics when it is more important for the gamer to focus on their tasks and solving the imposter mystery.

Furthermore, the game is compatible on many devices. When playing with my friends, some will be playing on their laptop and some on their phones (including me). It added to the fun factor because it broadened the amount of friends able to play. Playing with friends made the whole experience more entertaining, we would all join a call together so that it would be easier to talk during discussion time.
On the contrary, it would be amazing if there was a way that players could speak to each other via a voice chat, like Discord, and not text. When watching Youtubers play it with their friends, they are using Discord. Of course, there would be disadvantages to having one, such as it being much easier for bullying or verbal abuse to occur. I just think it would be much quicker during the discussion time. In my experience, by the time I have typed out what I want to say the topic of conversation has moved on and then I look ‘sus’ for bringing it back up.

A problem I had with the game was that there are hackers. Countless games I have had to leave and start a new one because a player hacks the game. What happened was the hacker would call an emergency meeting as soon as every round starts and hacks the vote, so they win. There was another instance when someone hacked the players’ messages and posted links from other players characters. For it to be easy for people to hack the game ruins the fun. It is annoying having to leave a game lobby because of hackers, especially when you have been playing with a good group of people for a few rounds.
Another problem I experienced was that the game server would sometimes act up, such as kicking everyone out of the lobby because we had all disconnected from the server. Again, it was really annoying as it took us longer than it should have to create a lobby and get a game started from the amounts of times each of us were kicked out.
All in all, the game is an absolute pleasure to play. Despite the problems I have had, they have not stopped me from playing it every night, if not then once every two nights.
