Dear Aspect: Vaccination edition

Leana Goulden

In this image, there are yellow signs strapped to orange traffic cones. On those yellow signs, it is telling people that the parking is for people visiting the COVID vaccination clinic only.

Dear Aspect, When will we all be vaccinated?

The exact date can’t be known just yet but we are definitely on track for the end of the summer. Most importantly, the most vulnerable people in our society have been offered/ taken the opportunity to have their vaccine. Students – it’s now coming up to our turn. Texts from the NHS are now starting to filter through into the younger groups and pop-up vaccination clinics are also rapidly increasing.

Aspect… my family are against the vaccine but I still want it, what should I do?

To put it simply – your body, your choice. If you are over 18, you don’t need parental permission and therefore that information doesn’t need to be disposed of if not preferred. You are entitled to take the free vaccine upon your own decision and furthermore, you can decide who to inform of such a decision.

Are there any other vaccines coming and when?

In May, a single-dose vaccine called Janssen was approved by the UK and 20m doses were ordered. It is not sure just yet when this will be made available to the public but it is most certainly a step in the right direction. Other vaccines have been ordered from other countries but again, remain in the same state as of yet. We are hopeful that these vaccines will make an appearance in the near future and further vaccination progress can be made.
