All About Digital Bullet Journaling

Lizzie Studying

Hi everyone, it’s Lizzie from @lizziestudying! I’m very honoured to write an article for this fabulous magazine, The Student Aspect. The team asked me to write about digital bullet journaling and for those who don’t know what digital bullet journaling or bullet journaling in general, here is a little summary.

This is an image from AmandaRachLee's Instagram page. It shows a bullet journal that Amanda has created, an events list and a task list. At the bottom of the page are some hand drawn red and white mushrooms.

Bullet journaling is a creative alternative for following your habits and planning your life. Several people like this very much, because you can do whatever you want and create your style. It is very motivating because you see something you like, so you directly want to color or check that checkbox. Successes use it to relax, with a cup of tea, some music, and a snack. You can use it as your very own outlet like an actual journal, but then with pictures in it or drawings. Write everything down that happened today, great or inadequate news, helpful or worthless, it doesn’t matter. Here is a pleasing example of a very profitable tasks and events list, created by AmandaRachLee.

As you can see, they used different colours and fonts to make it precisely how they desired. I am in love with this creation. I like frogs and mushrooms in it. You may be don’t, and that is the benefit. Anyone can make whatever they want.

This image is from Winterberry.studio's Instagram. In this image, they have created a calendar page for June with all the dates in that month underneath. The spread has been hand-decorated with red and white mushrooms.

To make these creatures, people use lots of stationary, such as highlighters, washi tape, black pens, but most important, dotted notebooks. Dotted notebooks like the name say, notebooks with dotted paper. But, you could use a tablet to replace that, as seen on Winterberry.Studio‘s tablet in the image.

As you can see in this picture, they used an IPad and an Apple Pencil. The app they are using is called GoodNotes, which is a paid app. It is a notetaking app that people also use for bullet journaling. What I like a lot about the app is that you have everything in one place.

At the very top, when you are using the app, you have the toolbar where there are the pens, highlighters, selection tools, and more. You can also add photos to make it a memory or background. It’s simple but so beneficial. I recommend this app, even if it costs $9 (£6.49).

That is only one of the hundreds of notetaking/bullet journaling apps. An app that I also recommend is Zinnia, this app is specially made for bullet journaling. You have different templates: for tasks, habits, plannings, and lots more. Also, it’s a free app, yay!

Now for the tablet and stylus. Most people use an IPad and an Apple Pencil. I use it too, but it is quite expensive. You can find a lot of alternatives for the Apple Pencil on Amazon and other sites. Some of them barely cost $20 (£14.39), which is not much compared to the Apple Pencil. The IPad is not the only tablet on earth, there are a lot of options from other brands or businesses.

I hope you got some inspiration and motivation to start a (digital) bullet journal. Have a good day/night! Remember to take care of the sick ones and stay safe! You are loved!
