We all need relationships- whether we’re outgoing and lively or shy and timid. It’s important that everyone feels a sense of belonging when out with friends or on their own.
After living through a year of social distancing, many people have found themselves feeling more alone than ever. But it doesn’t take a pandemic for us to feel this way- personal situations can leave us isolated too. Here are 5 ways to beat loneliness:
- Reconnect with others
It doesn’t require a team of thousands to stop us from feeling lonely. Experts say that having a few close friends can make a huge difference. Start with a chat and then consider meeting up for coffee at a local cafe to build friendships.
2. Rekindle a hobby
You could take up an old hobby like cooking, dancing photography, or Zumba. Activities that involve your hands (like sculpting and painting) can also help you lose track of time — in a good way. Or sign up to learn a new hobby.
3. Embrace nature more
It can be easy to underestimate the settling resonance of nature. Going for a walk and taking in captivating views can help you appreciate your environment and the simplicity of nature.
4. Cherish moments on your own
Is this a chance to do something you’ve always wanted to do? Try a new recipe or create something from scratch? Learn to make use of the golden opportunities you find alone- you won’t regret it.
5. Join an active club
By active club, I mean a group that makes you move your body. Try dance, swimming, yoga or simply going for a walk. These are great ways to unwind, relax and meet new people.
