5 ways to appreciate the little things in life

Christine Emelone

Life can get busy. Work, lectures and essays can mean we lose sight of the small gifts life bring us. Here are five ways to appreciate the little things in life:

  1. Celebrate

When we celebrate small wins, we acknowledge how blessed we are to have them and reap the rewards. Furthermore, our optimism increases when we think about the future and reaching our full potential. Whether it’s going out for a drink, meeting with a friend or simply making a note of the achievement, there are so many ways to embrace small wins.

2. Spend time with loved ones

This is one of the best ways to show gratitude for what you have. Cherish the moments you spend with family and friends- let them create your core memories. Life can change at any given time so enjoy time with your loved ones no matter what you’re doing. You’ll be glad you did.

3. Keep a gratitude journal

Apart from ending the day with a smile, a gratitude journal allows you to pull out the good of each day. You can remember all the things which made your day that much more special. It doesn’t have to be expensive or ground-breaking. Highlighting small wins makes it easier to appreciate positive things in life.

4. Look back through old memories

Did you go on an unexpected trip which happened to be the best time of your life? Have you visited somewhere that changed your perspective and made you cherish those around you?

Reminisce and reflect on all the good times that make you happy. It’s always good to go back down memory lane- you never know what you might discover which completely left your mind.

5. Keep going

It can be challenging to fully embrace small wins that come your way- but it’s not impossible! Keep holding on to those golden moments that bring you joy and change the entire mood of your day.
